NWS Says Small Chance of Snow Tomorrow Morning

Posted
wp_snowA low pressure system could bring a brief period of accumulating snow to the area after midnight tonight. The system will last through Friday morning across northeastern Maryland and the northern and western suburbs of Washington, D.C. the National Weather Service reports. However the weather service is less confident that the precipitation will be more snow than rain. "The best chance for any additional accumulation will be the two hours after sunrise, given the increasing sun angle," NWS forecasters said. "Even though it will be overcast, the sun will be heating the cold  from above, making it difficult for the precipitation type to be snow." The Virginia Department of Transportation is asking drivers to be alert during the morning commute. "Northern Virginia drivers are asked to be alert to a potentially slushy drive tomorrow morning, with one to two inches of snow forecasted early in the day," VDOT said. "About 380 trucks will deploy for Friday’s rush hour, with pavement and bridge temperatures expected to hover at 32 degrees from 3 a.m. through the early afternoon."
VDOT has pre-treated trouble spots such as bridges, ramps and overpasses on major roads in Loudoun, Fairfax, Arlington and Prince William counties throughout Thursday.
