NWS Warns of Evening Thundershowers, Possible Isolated Tornado

Posted

Lightning BoltsThe National Weather Service is calling for potentially severe thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening, with the possibility of an isolated tornado.

“A few thunderstorms may become severe with damaging wind gusts being the primary threat,” NWS said. “Large hail and an isolated tornado are also possible.”

The weather service has issued a Tornado watch for northern Maryland including Baltimore, northeastern West Virginia and far Northern Virginia until 9 pm. Thursday evening.

“Odds favor northern areas including Baltimore, hence the Watch now in effect there,” a NWS forecaster said. “However, some risk exists further south and it is not impossible the Watch could get extended further south or that warnings may be issued as far south as D.C. proper.”

NWS said the timing of the thunderstorm’s arrival in the I-95 corridor is around 6 p.m.
