The National Weather Service has issued a special statement warning of a strong thunderstorm that is heading in the direction of Nokesville/Bristow.

The storm contains brief heavy rain, light hail and winds up to 40 mph, NWS said.

Original Story: The National Weather Service is calling for a rough beginning to the week. According to the NWS, numerous showers and severe thunderstorms will develop Sunday afternoon and evening which could result in locally-damaging wind gusts. “These showers and thunderstorms will also contain heavy rainfall, which will continue through tonight,” they said. “A flash flood watch has been issued for Metropolitan Washington inside the Capital Beltway and up the Interstate 95 corridor into metro Baltimore where flooding is most likely.” The NWS warns that flash flooding will be possible elsewhere and the service may expand the Flash Flood Watch area later today. Forecasters expect widespread showers and thunderstorms Monday, which will contain heavy rain and isolated, damaging wind gusts, which may prompt a Flash Flood Watch for the area. These storms will continue Tuesday and Wednesday, again during the afternoon and evening hours. The NWS calls for a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Independence Day, with a high near 88 degrees and a 30 percent chance of precipitation. The evening will be mostly cloudy.
