UPDATED: NWS Warns of Strong Thunderstorm Saturday

Updated: May 11, 5:50 p.m. The National Weather Service has removed the Special Weather Statement; however, showers and thunderstorms are still expected. Original Story: The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement warning of  a strong thunderstorm that is heading toward the area Saturday evening. "At 5:10 p.m., a strong thunderstorm was located three miles north of Broad Run, moving east at 35 mph," the service said. The NWS expects penny to nickel-size hail and wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph. "This activity could bring a period of moderate to heavy rainfall, depositing around a quarter-inch of rainfall in about a half hour's time," they said.
