UPDATE: NWS Lowers Snow Expectation, Severe Cold Arrives Friday

The National Weather Service has lowered it's expectations for snow accumulations for the Thursday night weather event; however, warn of extreme cold Friday.

"It's fair to say there will be snow accumulations; however, values at this point appear to be too low to," forecasters said.

Thursday night, precipitation will begin as rain, but will change to snow with minimal accumulations likely overnight,

Cold Canadian air will settle over the area Friday night bringing the lowest temps. of the season, possibly in 11-15 degrees, they said.

The National Weather Service warns of a low-pressure system that will impact the region late Thursday into Friday, possibly bringing several inches of snow.

“Coastal low pressure may bring accumulating snow to the region Thursday night and Friday morning,” NWS said in a statement. “There is still some uncertainty as to the storm track and timing at this time.”

However, forecasters indicate that ingredients do appear to be present for a big East Coast storm.

“Temperatures are expected to be around 40 degrees Thursday, which will result in precipitation starting as rain, with the exception of rain/snow showers in the higher elevations,” they said.

Temps will fall to 26 Thursday night and weather models indicate that snow is likely.

Unseasonably cold weather will settle into the region Friday night.
