Snow, Extreme Cold Possible Tuesday

Here we go again.

According to the National Weather Service, Northern Virginia could experience similar conditions to the chilling temperatures of the first week of January.

"Low pressure and an associated Arctic cold front may bring a period of accumulating snow Tuesday," NWS forecasters said. "Bitterly cold conditions are expected behind the Arctic front Tuesday into Wednesday."

Furthermore, they warn that wind chills near or below zero are likely north and west of I-95.

"Although it appears that snowfall will be light, accumulating snow is still possible and it may impact the morning and/or evening rush," they said. "The exact timing and details are still uncertain this far out."

NWS explains that the transition between the departing front and Arctic high pressure will cause windy conditions Tuesday evening.

"The combination of bitterly cold temps behind the front along with windy conditions will cause very low wind chill values," they said.

Temperatures of 9 degrees are expected Tuesday night, with a high near 26 degrees on Wednesday.
