While a Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through 6 a.m. Tuesday for the area, chances of heavy rainfall persist through the end of the week.

The National Weather Service expects periods of heavy rainfall through Thursday, which may lead to localized flooding of small streams, creeks and urban areas.

The chance of precipitation remains at 40-50 percent each day.

"Rain coverage and intensity should diminish Thursday night through Friday night, as a weak surface area of high pressure builds in from the west," a NWS forecaster said.

Prince William County Police warn residents to be cautious during these storms.
