blackiceAfter the rain ends overnight, the Virginia Department of Transportation crews will continue to treat area roads with salt and sand into the Monday morning rush hour.

“VDOT asks drivers to remain mindful of icy conditions, to be cautious, stay alert and to allow some extra time for their a.m. commutes,” a spokesperson said.

According to VDOT, motorists should be aware that bridge and pavement temperatures will not rise above freezing until after 10 a.m. and extra time and care should be taken on ramps, overpasses, curves, hills, and lower-traffic roads

“Expect a wide range of road conditions to impact travel including black ice, slush and road spray,” they said.
