WEATHER BEAT: Arctic Blast Invades Region by End of Week

Posted

weatherbeatlogoWhat a nice stretch of weather we’ve been having lately. Sure the nights have been chilly, but we have been warming to the low to even mid-60s by the afternoons. I’m really enjoying this nice fall weather. This is going to stick around, right?

As of Monday night, all eyes are on Canada where temperatures are extremely cold for this time of year even for Canadian standards. The core of the cold air will eventually make its way into the U.S. In fact, many areas to our north are already feeling the impacts of the arctic blast with several million already getting dumped on with significant snow in the northern states. The only states that will be spared from this arctic blast are the extreme western states where they will actually see temperatures above normal. Even Florida will feel the modified affects of the cold.

Locally, I’m expecting temperature to drop into the 40s, and remain in the 40s for quite some time. This arctic blast isn’t going to be something that comes and goes, as is what you would expect in November. This arctic blast will instead bring a prolonged period of below average temperatures more reminiscent of January than November. Some models are even indicating that the cold temperatures will stick around through at least Thanksgiving.

With arctic air in place, wintry weather also becomes a possibility. As of right now, most chances for wintry weather are slim; however, Sunday evening into Monday morning could see temperatures cold enough that we could see some of our forecasted rain mix with a little sleet and wet snow. The thinking is the middle of next week could feature a better chance for wintry precipitation, but it’s still too far out to really know for sure.

I hope you guys aren’t too depressed after reading this. Stay warm and keep checking in for updates on a winter that is already looking frigid.

My favorite thing to do is study the weather. It is truly fascinating. Nothing beats a good thunderstorm. I became very interested in weather when I lived in Okinawa, Japan for four years and was actually inside a super typhoon.”
