WEATHER BEAT: Below Average Temps Continue Into August Along with More Stormy Weather

Posted

Early Wednesday morning, temperatures tumbled to the upper 40s across much of the region making for the coldest July temperature in 12 years. In fact, here in Bristow, I recorded a temperature as low as 47 degrees. With that said, what is the rest of summer looking like? Are we in for an early fall?

As of right now, August looks like it will feature more hot weather, but certainly nothing we aren’t used to. Long-range models show that more summer-like weather will return in mid-August, but no prolonged heat waves are expected. Much of August will feature highs in the 70s and 80s, with a few 90s expected as well. I am definitely seeing a lot more 70s and 80s than I would typically expect to see in August.

August will also feature a continued stormy pattern. With the strong cold fronts coming down, it means more and more chances for severe weather. In addition, the tropics are beginning to fire up and we could be dealing with more tropical weather and coastal storms in the coming weeks. I am, however, still expecting a below average tropical season.

I hope everybody is enjoying their taste of fall. While it does look like the hottest of summer is behind us, that’s not to say it won’t get hot again.

My favorite thing to do is study the weather. It is truly fascinating. Nothing beats a good thunderstorm. I became very interested in weather when I lived in Okinawa, Japan for four years and was actually inside a super typhoon.”
