Weather Beat: Colder Temperatures Return; Storm Possible Friday

Posted

Let’s just say that Monday’s weather was a cruel April Fools joke from Mother Nature, because the cold weather is not over yet.

Typically by now we start to see frost and freeze advisories when it gets cold, but because the cold seems to want to stick around, the growing season has yet to begin. For the week ahead, you can expect temperatures to remain in the 50s all week.  The average high for this time of year is 62 degrees, but come Tuesday, we could struggle to get out of the 40s, and with breezy conditions, it will feel even colder.

There is also a storm system we are tracking that will come up from the south.  Not to worry, this will be all rain. This storm is expected to impact our region on Friday, and we could see as much as an inch of rain.  This storm will be tapping into the Gulf of Mexico; thus, we will see plenty of moisture being sucked up into our region. Some of this rain could cause localized flooding in some areas.  Stay tuned, as we will continue to fine-tune this forecast as we get closer to Friday.

After the storm and this weekend, we are expecting a turn for the milder as I hinted at in my April outlook.  For those looking forward to spring and summer, it’s just around the corner.

“My favorite thing to do is study the weather. It is truly fascinating. Nothing beats a good thunderstorm. I became very interested in weather when I lived in Okinawa, Japan for four years and was actually inside a super typhoon.”
