WEATHER BEAT: Cooler Weather Continues throughout Week; Here Comes Rain

Posted

I hope everybody is enjoying the slightly cooler-than-average temperatures we are seeing because all indications are showing that they are here to stay for yet another week.

Many areas in our region reported temperatures in the low to mid 50s early Monday morning, making it feel more like the middle of September than early August. Even some 40s were seen in the higher elevations out to our west. With that said, temperatures are expected to remain in the low to mid 80s for yet another week.

What is causing these cooler temperatures in what is typically the second hottest month of the year? The jet stream is dipping way to our south right now, bringing a lot of cool air down from Canada. Long-range models are indicating that this trend could persist throughout much of August. Many meteorologists are saying the worst of summer is already behind us; however, I’m not one of them. In my opinion, there is still time for another heat wave.

Looking ahead, we are entering a period of unsettled weather, and as of now, Tuesday and Wednesday look to be the wettest days of the week; however, we should still expect a few showers into Thursday and Friday. The good news is that it looks like things should clear up just in time for the weekend. Starting Saturday and into early next week, I am expecting partly cloudy skies with highs in the low 80s.

Get out and enjoy this bargain weather we are seeing. Based on the comments we have received on our Facebook page, we’ve come to the consensus that this is the kind of weather everybody loves.

“My favorite thing to do is study the weather. It is truly fascinating. Nothing beats a good thunderstorm. I became very interested in weather when I lived in Okinawa, Japan, for four years and was actually inside a super typhoon.”
