WEATHER BEAT: Mid-Summer Outlook Features Cooler Temps

Posted

weatherbeatlogoI hate to say this but summer is basically half way over.

So far this summer we have dealt with some pretty hot temperatures; although, definitely not the hottest summer on record. So far, we have seen fifteen days with temperatures at or above 90 degrees, ten of which happened in June. With that said, what does this mean for the remainder of summer.

While this July has only seen one 90 degree day so far, I expect this to change. A string of hot days in our near future will likely add at least five more days to that total, and another wave of heat could arrive towards the end of July as well.

However, once we enter August, I expect this trend to shift to temperatures at or below average. For the month of August, I only expect to see a handful of days above 90 degrees.

This trend will likely continue into September with most days in the 70s and 80s. Summer officially ends on September 23.

One important thing to note is September begins the peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season. While I am not expecting an active season this year, the greatest threat for development near the United States will be in the Gulf of Mexico and the southeast coast between Florida and North Carolina.

My favorite thing to do is study the weather. It is truly fascinating. Nothing beats a good thunderstorm. I became very interested in weather when I lived in Okinawa, Japan for four years and was actually inside a super typhoon.
