WEATHER BEAT: Summer Outlook Looks Hot

Posted

weatherbeatlogoYou know, winter is one of my favorite seasons, but temperature wise, I think I would say autumn is better. Spring is a beautiful time of year seeing all of the blossoms bloom, but summer is my least favorite season of the year. With that said, I am happy to live in an area that sees all four seasons.

The topic of discussion for today’s Weather Beat is spring and summer. It felt like winter would never end this year, but like always, it does eventually end. The days are continuing to get longer and the temperatures are continuing to get warmer. It won’t be long until we see our first 80-degree temperature.

For the remainder of April, I expect to see temperatures at or slightly below average. Average for this time of year is getting close to 70 degrees. Granted, we may see a few days above average. In terms of precipitation for April, I expect to see an average month.

Unlike the last few years, I expect May to begin to heat up quite quickly. We will go from seeing temperatures at or below average in early May to at or above average towards the end of May. I expect May to feature average precipitation as well.

By the time we enter June, this is when I expect things to get very hot. In fact, I expect to see temperatures in excess of 90 degrees at least five or more times. In fact, I expect this pattern to continue into July with several 90-degree days as well as at least one day above 100 degrees, something that we haven’t dealt with in 3 years.

By August, it will still be hot, but things will begin to moderate. I still expect to see several days in the 90s, but towards the middle of the month, we will begin to see a reprieve in the heat as we begin to cool off for autumn.

Please note that this forecast is based on long-range models and doesn’t necessarily reflect what will actually happen. Please stay tuned for my 2015 Atlantic Tropical Outlook in my next Weather Beat.

My favorite thing to do is study the weather. It is truly fascinating. Nothing beats a good thunderstorm. I became very interested in weather when I lived in Okinawa, Japan for four years and was actually inside a super typhoon.
