WEATHER BEAT: Thunderstorms Could Turn Severe Friday Afternoon

Posted

weatherbeatlogoAs we get more and more into spring, the threat for severe weather will become increasingly likely, and Friday looks to be our first severe weather outbreak of the season.

Severe weather has already caused tornado outbreaks and dangerous thunderstorms in parts of the Midwest, and these storms are tracking towards our area. While I am not expecting tornadoes, gusty winds, heavy downpours, and hail are certainly a possibility.

Before the storms arrive, I expect to see some fog and drizzle early in the morning, which could slow things down for the morning commute.

The fuel for these storms is a warm front that will send temperatures surging into the 80s. The last two days featured temperatures well below average, but we are in for a big change Friday with not only warm temperatures, but very high humidity. I expect it to feel very summer-like ahead of these storms.

The greatest threat for storms is likely to occur between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., but you should stay on the lookout most of the afternoon.

Stay safe in these storms and stay tuned for the latest updates.

My favorite thing to do is study the weather. It is truly fascinating. Nothing beats a good thunderstorm. I became very interested in weather when I lived in Okinawa, Japan for four years and was actually inside a super typhoon.
