WEATHER BEAT: Tropical Storm Joaquin to Bring Heavy Rain this Weekend

Posted

weatherbeatlogoHere in Virginia, it seems like we go from one extreme to the next. After several weeks of deficit rainfall, we could see over a month’s worth of rain just this week.

As much as we don’t like tropical storms and hurricanes, these are usually the types of storms that are drought busters and Tropical Storm Joaquin is no exception.

Currently all eyes are on Tropical Storm Joaquin. As of right now, many models have Joaquin going out to sea, but these models should be taken as mere guides. Don’t put too much emphasis on models this far out regardless of how accurate one particular model tends to be.

Much of the mid-Atlantic from the Carolinas up towards the northeast should be on guard. I am specifically worried about our friends up in New Jersey, as they will likely get the brunt of this storm regardless of the track.

While I am not expecting Joaquin to make landfall anywhere near Bristow, what I do expect to see is a lot of rain and this storm will likely just become a Nor’easter which will usher in a lot of moisture and cold air into the region from Friday thru Sunday.

When all is said and done, I expect to see anywhere from 4-8 inches of rain which means flash flooding is likely in low lying areas.

Stay tuned to my Facebook page as well as Bristow Beat for the latest updates.

My favorite thing to do is study the weather. It is truly fascinating. Nothing beats a good thunderstorm. I became very interested in weather when I lived in Okinawa, Japan for four years and was actually inside a super typhoon.
