WEATHER BEAT: Winter Weather Begins to Ramp Up

Posted

weatherbeatlogoYou may recall from my Winter Weather Outlook that I had expected winter weather to begin ramping up once we entered January, and boy has it.

November had just a tad of snow shortly before Thanksgiving, and December had absolutely no snow at all. January’s 3-4 inches so far is a welcomed improvement for snow lovers, and there’s more where that came from.

January has already seen its fair share of snow in just the first week of the month. Models are already indicating yet more snow could be looming, and it could bring even more snow than what we just received. This potential snow looks to arrive sometime in the middle of next week and it could bring quite a bit of snow to our region based on the current computer models, which have been rather trustworthy in the past.

Another thing to note next week is the possibility of freezing rain early in the week. This storm will eventually turn to all rain, but freezing rain could wreak havoc on area roads and schools once again.

When all is said and done this January, I expect to receive anywhere from 10-15 inches of snow at a minimum. I’ll update next week’s snow as we get closer and models are more in agreement.

"My favorite thing to do is study the weather. It is truly fascinating. Nothing beats a good thunderstorm. I became very interested in weather when I lived in Okinawa, Japan for four years and was actually inside a super typhoon.”
