WEATHER BEAT: Winter Weather Sticks Around this Week

Posted

weatherbeatlogoThe calendar may say Meteorological Spring, but Mother Nature has different plans. In fact, this has been the trend the last couple years where March has recently been one of our snowier months.

After picking up about 13 inches of snow in February, we could be looking at a couple more inches in March.

On Tuesday, I am expecting a wintry mix to cause travel difficulties on area roads. This may impact schools. I do not think this will be a major storm, but it will be enough to cause problems, and I do expect a lot of slick roads, especially on secondary roads, for much of the afternoon.

Interstate 66 looks to be the dividing line between major disruptions and just minor disruptions, with areas south of us just seeing plain rain. I expect to see a combination of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and maybe even some plain rain as the day goes on.

By Wednesday, we will see just plain rain with highs surging to the mid-50s, but don’t get used to the mild temperatures. We will see a sharp dive in temperatures Wednesday night with rain turning to snow by Thursday. Snow could pile up a few inches Thursday. I’ll have an update on Thursday's storm in my next Weather Beat.

My favorite thing to do is study the weather. It is truly fascinating. Nothing beats a good thunderstorm. I became very interested in weather when I lived in Okinawa, Japan for four years and was actually inside a super typhoon.
