The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow from 4 a.m. to noon Wednesday.

Snow should begin 4 to 6 a.m. and continue into late morning before mixing with periods of sleet and dissipating by early afternoon.

One inch of accumulation possible.

"Snow will likely develop early in the morning commute; this coupled with road and air temperatures well below freezing will cause an accumulation of snowfall on roadways," NWS said.

Original Story:

The National Weather Service is calling for a potential wintry mix of snow and sleet throughout the day Wednesday, which could impact both commutes.

While there remains uncertainty regarding this system, the Virginia Department of Transportation suggests drivers prepare for a day-long storm tomorrow that could make driving hazardous in northern Virginia.

"Drivers are also asked to plan for a longer than normal commute, with snow predicted in the morning and hazardous sleet and freezing rain beginning in the afternoon," a VDOT spokesperson said.

VDOT will stage 700 trucks throughout Loudoun, Fairfax, Prince William and Arlington counties to treat roads. If necessary, they will add additional resources to handle the evening commute.

"Today, crews are pre-treating major roads and trouble spots in Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties. On interstates 66, 95, 395, and 495—including bridges and ramps prone to freezing such as the Springfield interchange, I-66 at Route 29 and the Capital Beltway interchange at Route 1—crews use liquid magnesium chloride. Problem spots on other major roads, such as the Fairfax County Parkway and routes 1, 7, 28, 29, 50 and 123, are pre-treated with salt brine," they said.

Highs Wednesday will be near 32 degrees. NWS forecasts a 40 percent chance of precipitation.

Bristow Beat will continue to monitor the weather and school closings and delays for Wednesday.
