For those who want to do more than eat this Thanksgiving, Fun Run Racing will be holding its Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot timed 5K and untimed 1-mile run again, this year. The races will begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Freedom Center in Manassas.

The Turkey Trot is the biggest race for the Prince William County-based company, which is known for holding large, family-friendly races around the holidays.

The idea for Fun Run Racing, according to co-founder Rob Dulin, is to celebrate everyone both the serious and casual runner, and to provide a user-friendly race experience that is exciting for everyone involved.

True to the company’s name, the Turkey Trot is really a “Fun Run.” For the past two years, people have come out in costumes dressed as pilgrims, Native Americans and, of course, turkeys! This year, Fun Run Racing will be giving away 100 Duck Donut pumpkin pie donuts, and all participants will be treated to Duck Donuts after the race.

Additionally, all 5K participants will receive long sleeve race tee and a custom commemorative race bib. All 1-mile participants will receive a short sleeve race tee and a custom commemorative race bib.

Runners are encouraged to dress for the occasion as organizers and volunteers will be handing out best costume awards.

The five top runners in their age/gender category will receive gift certificates from The Running Store in Gainesville. And, all runners will receive a “mystery prize” upon crossing the finish line.

To keep the festive atmosphere alive, Fun Run Racing will have entertainment including a D.J. at the starting/finish line. And, in case of cold weather, participants are welcomed to warm up inside the Freedom Center.

Fun Run Racing is once again partnering with the Manassas Bull Run Rotary to donate a portion of its profits to local charities, including SERVE and BARN Transitional Housing.

Regular registration for the Fun Run lasts until Nov. 15 and costs $35 for the 5-K and $17.50 for the 1-mile run. Race organizers encourage runners to sign up quickly as they expect to reach full capacity.
