UPDATE: May 12 at 10 p.m. - ARREST

On May 12, Prince William Police arrested both suspects sought in connection with the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Arthur of Dumfries at Somerset Point Apartments on Deming Drive in Gainesville on May 8, 2022.

The adult suspect, Malachi Thaddeus Coleman, 20 of Gainesville, turned himself over to the Adult Detention Center in Manassas. Coleman was wanted for 2nd degree murderrobbery, and use of a firearm in commission of a felony

The second suspect, a 16-year-old young man of Woodbridge, turned himself over to police custody later in the day. He is being charged with 2nd degree murder,

JUVENILE SUSPECT ARRESTED – On May 12, police arrested the juvenile suspect sought in connection to the  May 8 fatal shooting of an 18-year-old Dumfries man at Somerset Point Apartments. 

The suspect, identified as 16-year-old male, turned himself in at the Garfield Police Station in Woodbridge without incident. An adult suspect, identified as Malachi Thaddeus Coleman, was previously arrested in connection to this investigation.

A 16-year-old male juvenile of Woodbridge.  He was charged with 2nd degree murder . 

His court date is pending. Status is unavailable.

Police previously released the young man's name and photo when he was wanted. It has since been redacted.,

SUSPECT ARRESTED – On May 12, the adult suspect sought in connection to the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old Dumfries man, that occurred in the area of the Somerset Pointe Apartments located in the 14000 block of Deming Drive in Gainesville (20155) on May 8, was arrested.

The suspect, identified as Malachi Thaddeus Coleman, turned himself in at the Adult Detention Center in Manassas without incident. Detectives continue to seek the location of the 16-year-old male juvenile suspect who may be armed.

The Police Department is offering up to a $5,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the suspect. The investigation continues.

UPDATE: May 12- Police Offer Reward

Murder Investigation -On May 10, detectives with the Violent Crimes Bureau identified two suspects sought in connection to the fatal shooting that occurred in the area of the Somerset Pointe Apartments located in the 14000 block of Deming Drive in Gainesville (20155) on May 8.

One of the suspects is a juvenile. Detectives subsequently obtained arrest warrants for the adult suspect and a detention order for the juvenile suspect. Attempts to locate both suspects have been unsuccessful.

Pursuant to a court order issued today, May 12, 2022, by the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court of Prince William County, the Prince William County Police Department received authorization to publicly release the identifying information of the juvenile sought in connection to this investigation.

With the release of the juvenile’s information, as well as the adult suspect, police are asking for the public’s help locating these individuals.

The Police Department is offering up to a $5,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the suspects. Both individuals should be considered armed and dangerous. The investigation continues.

Wanted

Malachi Thaddeus Coleman, 20, of the 7500 block of Equinox Landing Court, Gainesville. He is described as a black male, 5’11”, 160lbs with black hair and brown eyes. 

Coleman is wanted for 2nd degree murderrobbery, and use of a firearm in commission of a felony

Victim

The deceased was identified as Michael Arthur, 18, of Widewater Drive in Dumfries.

Homicide Investigation – On May 8 at 1:58 a.m., officers responded to investigate a shooting that was reported to have occurred in the area of the Somerset Pointe Apartments located in the 14000 block of Deming Drive in Gainesville (20155) an hour prior.

An adult man suffering multiple gunshot wounds was brought to an area hospital by an acquaintance. The hospital staff notified the police.

A short time later, the man was pronounced dead.

The investigation revealed the man was shot following an altercation that reportedly occurred in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

Officers responded to the area and were able to locate the crime scene. No other injuries were reported.

Two parked and unoccupied vehicles sustained damage from being struck by gunfire.

Preliminarily, the incident does not appear to be random and there is no active threat to the community. The investigation continues.
