Police Conclude Investigation into Shooting at Gar-Field High School Grounds

Prince William Police charge juvenile for shooting at Woodbridge carnival

Shooting Investigation ARREST – On Nov. 9, Prince William Detectives with the Violent Crimes Bureau concluded the investigation into the shooting that occurred on the grounds of Gar-Field High School, 14000 Smoketown Road in Woodbridge (22192), on April 15.

The investigation revealed a male juvenile, identified as a 16-year-old of Triangle, fired multiple rounds while in the parking lot of the school near the carnival. The rounds struck an unintended victim, a 14-year-old girl, who was also in the parking lot at the time of the shooting.

Detectives worked diligently to identify the suspect. Additionally, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives provided assistance during the investigation and offered a reward in this case.

Following the investigation, the suspect, identified as a 16-year-old male of Triangle, who was previously arrested on May 26. He remains incarcerated at the Juvenile Detention Center where he was being held on unrelated charges.

His court date is pending. 

Shooting Investigation *REWARD OFFERED [Previously Released] – The ongoing efforts to locate the suspect sought in connection to the shooting that occurred on the grounds of Gar-Field High School, 14000 Smoketown Rd in Woodbridge (22192) on April 15 continues. Through a partnership with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, a $5,000 reward is being offered in connection to the arrest and conviction of the suspect involved. The Police Department is also offering up to an additional $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case. The investigation continues.

Shooting Investigation [Previously Released] – On April 15 at 9:22 p.m., officers assigned to an off-duty security detail at the carnival located on the grounds of Gar-Field High School, 14000 Smoketown Rd in Woodbridge (22192), heard what sounded like gunfire coming from an area near the entrance to school.

The sound caused those attending the carnival to flee in mass. Officers on assignment ran towards the gunfire, eventually locating a 14-year-old female juvenile with a gunshot wound to her abdomen. Officers provided immediate first aid to the juvenile until rescue personnel arrived on scene.

The juvenile was flown to an area hospital where her injuries were determined to be non-life threatening. The investigation revealed two groups left the carnival and were involved in a verbal argument in the parking lot. During the encounter, multiple gunshots were fired, and the groups dispersed on foot.

The victim was located in the parking lot by officers several yards away from where the shooting occurred. It is unknown if the victim was affiliated with or known to the groups involved. Multiple shell casings were also recovered. Witnesses reported seeing a possible suspect flee toward Smoketown Road after the shooting.

No other shooting victims were located. Officers did determine an uninvolved vehicle was struck by a bullet as the driver was leaving the carnival. The driver was not injured. The suspect was described as a black male, possibly in his teens, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and white shoes. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this incident or if anyone has videos or photos leading up to, during or after the incident to contact police. The investigation continues.
