Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Effect for Monday

Thunderstorms expected before 10 p.m.

Severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts is expected to sweep through the region this afternoon into the evening, according to the National Weather Service. 

The regions likely to be affected includes Northern Virginia, Southern Maryland, West Virginia, North-Western Virginia, and Central Virginia.  Flooding is possible.

"The line should reach the Baltimore and Washington Metro Areas between 5 and 8 p.m." said the NWS. 

Storms have begun in Western Maryland and eastern panhandle of Wester Virginia. They are expected to continue between 1 and 4 p.m.  heading east across the Shenandoah Valley. From there they are expect to head north towards the D.C. metro region. 

"All people should be ready to seek shelter when storms threaten or warnings are issued," said the NWS. 

People should stay off the water.
