As the investigation into the officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 14700 block of Fox Glove Court in Woodbridge, on September 1 progresses, preliminary details are being released to keep our community informed of the events prior to the shooting taking place.

On Sept. 1, an undercover Manassas City Detective in cooperation with a multi-agency narcotics task force, arranged (through a confidential informant) to purchase a large quantity of suspected Fentanyl pills and at least one firearm.

Three men met the detective, arriving at Fox Glove Court in a separate vehicle. One of the men Jalil Michael Turner entered the detective’s unmarked vehicle. After a brief encounter, Turner exited. He returned a short time later with one of the other men, Jaiden Malik Carter. Turner got into the front passenger seat and Carter into the backseat.

At one point during their conversation, Turner produced a handgun and demanded money from the undercover detective as well as additional property. Meanwhile, a third man, Shane Dareon Pollard, repositioned his vehicle behind the detective’s vehicle.

Carter ordered the detective to open the trunk to look for the money that was to be used in the transaction. Both men took property from the detective, including the money, before getting into the other vehicle occupied by Pollard.

All three men attempted to flee in the vehicle just as additional detectives were converging on the location to make the arrest. Two handguns, one which was illegally modified to be fully automatic with an extended magazine, were located at the scene.

These events lead up to the exchange of gunfire with police which continues to be led by the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT). Additional details surrounding the shooting aspect of the incident will be released as information becomes available.

At this time, CIRT investigators have obtained charges against Turner and Pollard for robbery in connection to the initial robbery altercation which ultimately resulted in the death of Carter. Both men are in police custody, Pollard remains hospitalized.

During the investigation, Pollard was also determined to be wanted on active warrants from an unrelated carjacking that occurred in October 2021, involving a known party.

Investigators continue to ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to contact police. The investigation continues.

On Sept. 6, police charged Jalil Michael Turner 18, of no fixed address with robbery resulting in a death and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

His court date is set for October 17, 2022. He is being held WITHOUT Bond.

On Sept. 6, police charged Shane Dareon Pollard, 30, of 1482 Ranger Lp, #303, in Woodbridge, with robbery resulting in a death. His court date is set for October 17, 2022. He remains hospitalized.
