Brentsville District School Board Representative Gil Trenum, a Navy reservist who will be deployed in Dijbouti, Africa, has submitted to the Prince William County School Board the names of residents Shawn Brann, Christopher Park and Kim Simons to serve as his proxy.
According to Virginia Code 2.2-2802*  Reservists are able to continue to hold elected offices in Virginia while in active duty and may choose a replacement.
 .
Trenum said he feels comfortable with any of these individuals serving as his active representative and all have children in the school division.
 .
"All three have served on my budget advisory committee for several years and have previously served the community on school-related committees and organizations," Trenum posted on social media Sunday. "They are all parents of students currently attending Prince William County Schools. None of them are members of a political party and none of them have run for elective office."
 .
Trenum said he has approached these individuals about the potential appointment.
  .
"I have discussed this possibility with them and they have all agreed to step up if the board appoints them," he said.
  .
In a letter to the Board, Trenum indicated that once he received "a positive statement" indicating the member's intention to appoint one of the names, he would formally submit an official request to appoint that individual.
  .
The School Board will next meet at the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year.
