Prince William County Schools invites residents to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony Aug. 27  at 6 p.m. to formally dedicate Chris Yung Elementary, which opens to students this year.
Elected officials, the school community, school board members and officials are expected to attend the event. The school division also announced that Kathy Notyce was named principal and Michelle Pohzehl assistant principal of the county's newest school.
The newly-formed CYES chorus will also perform.
The school is named for a Prince William County police officer who lost his life in the line of duty. Chris Yung died on New Year’s Eve Day 2012 while on duty as a motorcycle officer for the Prince William Police Department. Yung’s motorcycle collided with another motor vehicle that was turning into the Sowder Village Square shopping center on Nokesville Road. Yung was 34-years-old.
A citizen-led movement to name the new school after fallen officer had significant momentum throughout the naming process for the school.
Chris Yung Elementary School is located at 12612 Fog Light Way in Bristow.
