Driver Dies as Car Crashes into Catharpin Garage

A vehicle crashed into a residential garage in the Catharpin area of Gainesville, Friday, killing the driver and the family's dog.

July 22 at 3:42 p.m., Prince William Police Officers and Fire and Rescue teams responded to a residence in the 13200 block of Catharpin Valley Drive, Gainesville to investigate a single vehicle crash into a garage.

“When fire crews from the department of fire and rescue arrived, the vehicle and residence were found to be fully engulfed in flames,” police spokesperson, Officer Nathan Probus said.

The driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was found inside the car, which had smashed into the garage.

Rescue crews also found a dog deceased inside the residence. According to police, the home’s other occupants were able to evacuate the residence without injury.

The remains of the driver will be transported to the Medical Examiner's Office for further analysis and identification.

The identity of the deceased will be announced once police have contacted next of kin.

The incident is being jointly investigated by the Prince William County Police Homicide Unit and the Department of Fire and Rescue’s Fire Marshals’ Office.
