Original Story: Prince William County Police Department Officer Chris Yung, 35, was killed in a crash involving a 2001 Dodge Caravan at the intersection of Nokesville Road and Piper Lane Dec. 31 at 2:04 p.m. Following the initial investigation of the accident, the police released additional details. The police report that Yung was responding to a separate crash at Fauquier Drive and Reid Lane prior to the accident. "The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2001 Dodge Caravan made a left hand turn from northbound Nokesville Road into the shopping center, crossing in front of the officer who was traveling southbound on Nokesville Road," police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok said. "The officer was on his department motorcycle with the emergency equipment activated, including lights and siren. As a result of the crash, the van and motorcycle caught fire." According to police, two off-duty members of the Fairfax County Department of Fire and Rescue as well as additional citizens were the first to respond to the accident scene. They pulled Yung from the fire and administered CPR until Fire and Rescue personnel responded. "Yung was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead," Perok said. While no charges have been filed in the accident, the investigation continues. A statement from police identifies "the passenger" in the 2001 Dodge Caravan as a 47-year-old woman of Gainesville. "At the time of the crash, the traffic signal for Nokesville Road at the intersection was green, permitting northbound and southbound traffic to flow," he said.  "The driver and passenger inside the van were not injured." From a statement released by police, Officer Yung was currently assigned to the Traffic Unit as a motorcycle officer and has been a member of the department for seven years. A former United States Marine, he is survived by his wife, three children and additional family. Reportedly, his brother and wife are members of the Prince William County Police Department. "This is the department's third line of duty death since the department’s founding in 1970," Perok said. "Acting Chief Barry Barnard continues to ask for the public’s thoughts and prayers as the department copes with the loss of a colleague and friend."
