Sponsored by the Nokesville Business Association, the Third Annual Nokesville Christmas Parade begins this Saturday at 4 p.m. along Fitzwater Drive. It will be followed by other holiday festivities also Fitzwater.

Like the Nokesville Day Parade, The Nokesville Christmas Parade is fast becoming a local tradition in which the community of Nokesville and greater Brentsville, Gainesville and Manassas area gathers together to celebrate the holidays.

For adults and children alike, it is a spectacle to see classic cars, firetrucks, high school marching bands, regal horses, dancers and finally Santa Claus himself. For Nokesville residents, it is a chance to catch up with friends and neighbors.

As in years past, immediately following this year’s parade, The Nokesville Church of the Brethren, along with Nokesville United Methodist Church, is hosting a dinner in the fellowship hall. They will be serving chili, sandwiches, cheese and an array of desserts.

The dinner is free for children, and $5 for teens and adults (13 and up.) All the proceeds will go towards helping needed families in our community over the holidays. Donations of canned for are also welcomed.

Along with the dinner, there will be free horse-drawn carriage rides after the parade. The line forms at the back of the church. Attendees also can expect a live nativity scene on the front lawn and a choir to perform Christmas selections.

Last year’s, Christmas Parade was somewhat hampered by a rainy afternoon, but this year, they are predicted sunny weather.

“Even though I don't generally trust weather forecasts so far in advance, I hear it's going to be sunny and in the 50s -- perfect day to catch up with friends and enjoy a Christmas -y day!” said Gail Williams of the Nokesville Business Association.

Those planning to attend can also help needy children at The Nokesville School, Nokesville’s new public K-8 school, by bringing a toy to the Chuck Wagon restaurant on Fitzwater before Dec. 16.

“Bill LeMaster is hosting a Christmas dinner for the families a few days later and asks the community to support him by bringing a toy so that every child will receive a gift they might not otherwise get,” Williams said.

Williams said that donations provided early in advance should help him determine how many more gifts he needs to provide so that everyone can receive a present.
