Weekend Beat: Waste Away with Jimmy Buffett This Labor Day Weekend

Posted

It’s Labor Day weekend here in the U.S. of A.! Although we are sad to see summer go so soon, we are happy to have an excuse to celebrate. And what better a reason than Labor Day? Because we labor so hard all year long, it's always nice when the government (and hopefully your boss) encourages you to take the day off.

Labor Day is quite an event here in Bristow. While the other suburbanites pack their suitcases and head down to the beach, America's most famous beachcomber comes to our Cellar Door (or Road). No, not Snooki...

I'm talking of course about Jimmy Buffett. You probably heard of him about the first time you fell in love with frozen drinks straight from the blender, or maybe you grooved to his melodies in Key West. No matter what your personal relationship is with Jimmy, it's likely you think of him fondly as you think of summer.

If you can still get tickets to see Mr. Buffett this weekend at Jiffy Lube Live, we suggest you do so. (Bristow Beat will be there, so come find us!)  Concert begins at 8:00 p.m.

Aug. 31, 2012 Friday=Football

Okay, so this is not so much an end-of-summer tradition as a kick off to fall.

How about celebrating the beginning of a new tradition? The Patriot Pioneers will kick off their first official football varsity game  this Friday at home. Come to the field at Patriot High School. Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m. There is a small fee to attend the game.

Sept. 2, 2012 Sunday= Atlantis Water Park

If you haven’t yet gone to a water park this summer, try heading to one that’s close to home. Atlantis Water Park is located on the grounds of Bull Run Park, off Route 29/Lee Highway in Centreville. The park has a little something for everyone from two large slides ideal for tweens, teens and adults to a splash fun park for the younger kids and swimming pools for adults and children. Remember summer is made to be spent partially underwater!

Sept 3, 2012 Monday=Water’s Edge

Traveling over a holiday weekend is no fun at all, but if eating and drinking along the water is still on your to-do list this summer, better head on over to the Water’s Edge in Occoquan (located across the river from Mill Road). The Water’s Edge is right on the water, giving it all the allure of a beach town. The view is terrific, the atmosphere is great, and they serve drinks that are affordable enough for you to stay a bit longer and lose yourself in the "seaside" Prince William locale.

And in case you have forgotten, there is an added treat this weekend: Monday. Right, right, we all hate Mondays -- except when Monday is a holiday.
