TCBY and Mrs. Fields Cookies are familiar names. Now, the two companies are coming together with a new store in Bristow Commons, which happens to be their first cobranded store on the East Coast.

TCBY/Mrs. Fields opened June 12 as one of the first groups locations at Bristow Commons on Devlin Road. While this is the first time that the companies have advertised their Bristow opening, manager Quazi Mahbubul Alam said he has already received a good response by many residents.

“They walk in and say, ‘Oh, you are open.’” Alam said.

Alam expects the store will do well because of the variety of treats they offer, from cookies to cakes, frozen yogurt, breakfast pastries and espressos.

Although the local frozen yogurt market has become saturated in recent years, Alam said many people are rooting for TCBY because they remember it as the original frozen yogurt shop.

In fact, it is the customers’ response to TCBY’s frozen yogurt that has him confident about the store's success. They tell him his frozen yogurt is preferable to others as it tastes more like ice cream.

“It’s a different kind of taste,” Alam said. “Their taste and our taste is totally different.”

Alam is also proud to run the only frozen yogurt shop in the area to offer scoop-served frozen yogurt and not just soft-serve, which is available in such flavors as  mint-chocolate chip and rocky road.

And while flavors like chocolate and vanilla are staples, TCBY will rotate seasonal flavors, such as mango or pumpkin. TCBY also offers healthier frozen treat choices; they include glutton free, nonfat, no added sugar and Greek yogurt.

Due to the hot weather, TCBY frozen yogurt has been the store's most popular seller; however, most patrons have been purchasing both cookies and froyo in the same visit.

As Mrs. Fields, they are also offering a variety of popular fresh-baked cookies: chocolate chip, white chocolate macadamia nuts, oatmeal raisin and more. They also serve cookie sandwiches and brownies. Cookie cakes are pre-made, to order and by the slice in a variety of flavors and sizes, including "cookie card."

Along with the cookies and cakes, Mrs. Fields has an array of cafe quality coffees such as Lattes and Cappuccinos. The drinks pair well with both treats and patrons, who are invited to stay with a cup and read or work in their cafe area, which features WiFi and comfortable modern seating.

Alam also opens early to serve breakfast of croissants or muffins with a morning coffee or espresso, cookies or froyo. Right now, they open at 8 a.m., but would soon like to open earlier to cater to commuting residents.

He imagines that once new stores open in the second phase of Bristow Commons, TCBY will benefit from the traffic of people going out to dinner, sending their kids to school or running their errands.
