In response to the icy conditions from two winter weather events, Prince William County Schools will open two hours late on Wednesday, Dec. 11.

Original Story:

While the the Virginia Department of Transportation will address the impending refreezing of county roads overnight, Prince William County Schools crews were working to prepare schools to open Wednesday.

"Crews are working today to ensure that walks and parking lots are cleared, and that any other weather-related issues are addressed," Director of Communication Servics Phil Kavits said Tuesday afternoon.

However, Kavits would not say whether or not the School Division would consider closing or delaying the opening of schools on Wednesday.

"As always, safety is the primary issue," he said. "Unless weather and/or road conditions or forecasts raise doubt about safety, schools will operate on a normal schedule."

As of 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening, all county schools will open on a normal schedule.

"There will be no announcement unless a variance from the normal schedule is needed," he said.
