Prince William County police charged James Burless of Leesburg, the driver of the fuel tanker that overturned Thursday night spilling fuel onto Sudley Manor Drive, with reckless driving.

According to an eyewitness, the tanker truck was speeding when it overturned in front of Braemar Village Plaza.

The truck overturned, spilling 7,500 gallons of fuel onto the road, prompting police to issue a shelter-in-place order to Braemar residents. Throughout the night, police prepared residents for potential evacuation to Marsteller Middle School due to the heavy fumes.

The heavy rains and flooding conditions caused the spilled fuel to run off into Broad Run, which Hepaco Environmental is in engaged in efforts to clean up.

Burless, who was driving for Hahn Transportation, received minor injuries from the accident.
