Overall, 44 Prince William County schools earned the recognition, which is an increase of four schools over last year.
.
"Schools attain this designation by demonstrating high levels of performance—they must be fully accredited by the state, meet Virginia academic Annual Measurable Objectives, and achieve an overall score of 90 out of 100 points on PWCS Strategic Plan-based measures," PWCS Director of Communications Services Phil Kavits said.
.
These schools will formally celebrate their successes in the near future.
.
"The celebrations will recognize the contributions of the entire school community in achieving the School of Excellence designation," Kavits said.  "As in the past, schools earning this honor will be presented with commemorative flags and plaques at their school-based celebrations."
