BOCS Votes to Request Speed Tables in Virginia Oaks

Posted

At the request of residents of Virginia Oaks, the Board of County Supervisors voted in favor of the Department of Transportation installing four “speed tables” in the Gainesville community.

Many local motorists traveling on Route 29 use the development as a bypass to avoid the intersection of Linton Hall Road and Route 29.

According to documents, supervisors will request installation of one device between 7827-7833 Virginia Oaks Drive, two between 7814-7820 and 7699-7717 Royal Sydney Drive and one between 14000-13070 Sterling Point Drive.

This measure follows the supervisor’s solicitation of public comments from June 6-20, 2013. Of 129 responses, 74 percent supported the initiative and 26 percent opposed.

The Virginia Oaks Homeowners' Association made the request Dec. 2012 in response to residents' desire for “traffic calming measures.”

Brentsville District Supervisor Wally Covington will fund the approximately $32,000 project from his district’s Transportation & Roadway Improvement Program  Holding Account.

The vote at the Nov. 19 BOCS meeting was unanimous.
