Fire and rescue units with Nokesville Volunteer Fire & Rescue Station 5 were dispatched in response to a structure fire in a single-family home on the 14500 block of Stephens Street in Nokesville. No one was home at the time of the fire.

“First arriving units observed smoke billowing from the front door and inquired if the home was occupied,” said Information Specialist Kim Hylander. “They were informed the residents were currently at work.”

Firefighters searched the home and discovered the fire originated in the basement. They extinguished the fire there and kept it from spreading to the rest of the house.

No injuries were reported, but according to the Fire Marshal’s office there is $50,000 in estimated damages to the property.

The case is currently under investigation, although it has been determined that the fire originated in the basement.

Red Cross assistance was not requested and the occupants of the home are currently staying with friends.
