Fire Investigators Suspect Arson in Gainesville Auto Repair Blaze

fireandrescue2-240x180Fire and rescue units responded to a fire at Caliber Collision, an auto repair facility, located in the 7000 block of Progress Court in Gainesville 4 a.m. Wednesday.

According to Department of Fire and Rescue Communications Specialist Kim Y. Hylander, upon arrival, firefighters were quickly able to extinguish four vehicles, two dumpsters and an area of brush they observed on fire.

They also detected a possible odor of a flammable liquid.

The incident is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office assisted by the Prince William County Police Department; the Stafford County Fire Marshal’s Office assisted with an Arson K-9 Unit.

"Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that multiple vehicles had damage to their fuel tanks," Hylander said.

Rescue crews reported no injuries.

"According to the Fire Marshal’s Office, preliminary property damage is estimated at $100,000," she said. "The incident is being investigated as an arson crime."
