Prince William County Police responded to the 14500 block of Collingham Place in Gainesville March 16 for an attempted residential burglary.
According to the homeowner, who was home at the time of the potential home invasion, she was in the living room of her residence Monday evening when she observed a figure in her backyard.
"At that point, a loud noise was heard and the homeowner screamed," police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok said. "The potential intruder immediately fled and was not seen."
The intruder never made entry into the home, he said, nor was any property taken.
Police found a rear door and window damaged.
