Gainesville Man Assaulted After Warning Suspect Gas Pump Was Still Attached

Police report that a 69-year-old man of Gainesville, who attempted to warn Austin Lee Kretsch, 19, that he was about to drive away with a gas pump still attached to his car, was assaulted by the individual at the Somerset Crossing Drive Miller Mart.

"[On Sept. 11] both were pumping gas at the Miller Mart; the victim informed the accused that he was about to drive away with the gas pump still attached to the vehicle," said police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok. "The accused became agitated with the victim and struck him in the face several times."

Perok said the victim sustained minor injuries.

According to the police report, Kretsch, of 13576 Filly Court in Gainesville, left the scene, but was later located by officers in the area of Linton Hall Road and Wellington Road, where he was arrested without further incident and charged with malicious wounding.

The court date is set for Oct. 22 and the accused is being held without bond.
