Gainesville Middle School Principal Calls Gun Threat 'Unfounded'

In a letter distributed to Gainesville Middle School parents Oct. 3, Principal Catherine Porter-Lucas said there is no evidence to support a recent threat that a student might bring a gun to school following an altercation with another student.

"It was reported during the school day on October 2, 2014 that a student allegedly made a comment that he was going to bring a gun to school next week. The information received was second-hand, and there were no direct witnesses," Porter-Lucas wrote in a statement. "Subsequent investigation has since found no evidence to support the intent of any student to bring a gun to school next week."

A Bristow resident reported to Bristow Beat that a threatening text was sent to multiple students at the school.

Porter-Lucas said that the administration assessed the validity of the claim following reports from students.

"Our administration immediately notified the School Resource Officer and other appropriate authorities," she said. "Phone calls and emails to the school are being immediately addressed in order to alleviate and minimize unnecessary concerns."
