According to the Prince William County Police Department, they do not solicit donations.

"No, as a department we don’t," police spokesman Officer Nathan Probus said. "There are police associations (FOP, Police Benevolent Association, PWC Police Association) that may have fundraising drives but they are not directly affiliated with us and we do not receive any financial support from them."

Original Story:

The Haymarket Police warns that someone is making fraudulent telephone calls soliciting donations, claiming to be from the department.

According to police, they do not solicit donations from residents.

"I had a call today from a citizen who received a telephone solicitation for donations; the caller claimed to be from the Haymarket Police Department," a spokesperson said. "This is not a legitimate call!"

The number that the scammer used came up as 703-659-073; police and local St. Louis VOIP providers confirmed it is a VOIP number, which disguises the true number of the caller.

"If anyone receives any of these types of calls simply hang up or tell the caller you have spoken with us and we don't make these types of calls," he said.
