I-66 Rest Stop Stabbing Suspect Dies by Train

Virginia_State_Police_carThe investigation into an assault at a Prince William County Interstate 66 Rest Area, Wednesday, has led Virginia State Police to an individual who died by train in Warren County later that same morning.

At 6:22 a.m., Wednesday, Virginia State Police responded to a call for a medical emergency at the Interstate 66 westbound Rest Area in Prince William County, Manassas.

“Upon arrival, troopers discovered one of the custodians who worked at the Rest Area, a 60-year-old Woodbridge, Va., man, had been stabbed multiple times,” said Virginia Police Public Relations Manager, Corinne Geller. “The man was transported by ambulance to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.”

At 8:27 a.m., Virginia State Police responded to a railroad crossing at Payne Lane off of Stonewall Jackson Highway in Warren County’s Bentonville community where a man had stepped in front of an oncoming train.

“The train was unable to stop in time and Khalif R. Privott, 21, of Manassas, Va., died at the scene,” said Geller. “Privott’s abandoned vehicle was recovered at the scene.

Virginia State police reported that through the course of the investigation and evidence collected at the scene in Warren County,

Virginia State Police special agents have identified Privott as the subject responsible for the attack at the I-66 Rest Area based upon the investigation and evidence collected at the scene in Warren County.

The investigation into the attack and suicide remain ongoing.
