Gainesville Man Charged for Assault on Law Enforcement Officer

A Gainesville man assaulted a Prince William law enforcement officer, Tuesday, when the officer arrived with a warrant for his arrest.

Oct. 18 at 11:29 p.m., Prince William Officers responded to an apartment located in the 14700 block of Soapstone Drive in Gainesville to serve paperwork to Edy Ramirez-Hernandez, regarding an active warrant.

The accused allegedly assaulted a 45-year-old woman earlier that day.

“When officers attempted to take the accused into custody, he became agitated and actively resisted,” said police spokesperson, Sgt. Jonathan Perok. “During the encounter, the accused kicked one of the officers.”

After a brief struggle, the accused was eventually detained. No injuries were reported.

Edy Ramirez-Hernandez, 22, of Gainesville, was charged with assault & battery on a LEO, assault & battery, and resisting arrest.

Ramirez-Hernandez’s court date was set for Dec. 15, 2016. Bond was unavailable.
