LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Citizen Urges Prince William BOCS to Delay Stone Haven Vote

Posted

Dear Supervisors,

I'm Kim Simons, and I live in the Brentsville District. As you know, my representative on the BOCS has stepped down. Until such a time as his replacement is sworn in and seated, I, and everyone who lives in my district, will be without an elected representative on the BOCS.

The thing about being an elected officials is that if I and enough of my fellow citizens don't like what you're doing, we can fire you in the next election. That forces you to at least listen to what we have to say.

Bresntsville District residents no longer have that right. There is no one we can fire if they don't listen to us because we don't have an elected representative.

I have heard some folks say that the school system desperately needs the site for the 13th high school, and if we delay the vote on Stone Haven then the school will be delayed. That argument is false. Three months won't make a difference either way. The school division has had since 2009 to acquire land for the 13th high school, but has failed to do so.

Lack of planning on their part should not constitute such an emergency on your part that it justifies undermining the rights of every Brentsville District citizen.

Please delay votes on projects affecting Brentsville District until after Wally's replacement is sworn in and seated. We Brentsville District residents deserve to have our voices heard by someone whose job depends on his/ her ability to listen to us.

Thank you,

Kim Simon
