According to police, the 25-year-old victim called police to report Feb. 27 that a verbal dispute with a family member had escalated.

"During the encounter, the accused allegedly retrieved a machete and swung it towards the victim multiple times," police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok said. "The victim was able to avoid being struck and called police."

Minor injuries were reported, he said.

Prior to the arrival of police, the suspect fled the scene; police used a K-9 to search the area.
