While different locations within western Prince William County might be seeing different forms of precipitation, National Weather Service forecasters are only calling for minor accumulations Saturday morning.

"Temperatures have finally fallen enough to start mixing and changing precipitation to snow across more of the area," they said. "Onset sleet mixing is likely in all areas but it should be brief and it is not expected to be the predominant precipitation type."

Light accumulations remain possible over the next few hours for Northern Virginia.

"Compared to a couple days ago this is virtually nothing; most of the precipitation should be over by mid to late morning," a forecaster said. "Skies will at least be briefly clear tonight and with drier air pushing in, lows should drop into the 20s with colder pockets reaching the teens."

NWS expects a weak clipper system will pass through the area Sunday with high pressure returning for Monday. A warm front will move through the area Monday into Tuesday, ushering in warmer temperatures into the 50's during the week.

Just as the Winter Storm Warning expired at 5 a.m. Friday, the National Weather Service reported a potential for more snow Saturday.

"Despite milder conditions there should be enough cooling from this system for precipitation to fall primarily in the form of snow across the northern and central portions of the." a NWS forecaster said.

According to the weather service, half an inch to 2 inches of accumulating snow is most likely to come across Northern Maryland, Northern Virginia and the Potomac highland. Precipitation will end from the west to the east later Saturday morning into the early afternoon hours.

NWS also warns of gusty northwest winds reaching 33 mph Saturday afternoon.

The area could also see more precipitation Monday night, Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Another storm system will push across the lower Great Lakes into New England Monday night and Tuesday, bringing a chance for rain and snow showers. Brief high pressure builds in late Tuesday and Tuesday night before yet another storm slides across the Great Lakes Wednesday and brings another chance of rain or snow showers."
