News Site Seeks to Link Bristow Communities

To Prince William County residents, Bristow is typically considered, "How you get to Gainesville." However the over 15,000 residents of 11 bedroom communities considered the town for its amenities, convenience and overall family-friendly atmosphere.

Despite the number of residents, Bristow is largely ignored by the Prince William County media. BristowBeat.com, a new website dedicated to Bristow news, information and features, hopes to bring a larger sense of unity to the town.

"Bristow is an unincorporated town that seems to derive it's identity from it's association with other towns. It's a shame because there are many amazing stories right here and we aim to tell them," publisher Jason Shaw said.

The news site, managed by Shaw and his wife, Stacy, plans to offer residents Bristow-specific multimedia features, such as coverage of community sports teams, local events and columns written by residents.

"The focus of the publication will be to provide Bristow with a forum of its own that reflects the identity and character of the town," said Shaw.

BristowBeat.com is planning a print and outdoor advertising blitz to introduce the website.

"In the next year we will be rolling out a number of innovative features, including some things people have never seen on any other news site," Shaw said.

Jason Shaw is a 16-year journalism teacher, while Stacy Shaw has been an editor and reporter for print and online publications in Prince William, Loudoun and Fairfax counties.

"We have bold plans to bring Bristow together with up-to-date concentrated coverage and by sponsoring community events," said Shaw. "First Night Bristow? Stay tuned."
