The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

According to the weather service, with heat index values up to 105 degrees, temperatures in the mid 90s and dewpoints in the lower 70s, there are increased risks for heat-related illness for those without air conditioning or those outdoors for an extended period.

“The combination of high temperatures and high humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible,” NWS said.

NWS advises residents to take precautions if any time is spend outside.

"Reschedule strenuous activity to early morning or evening," a forecaster said. "Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke; wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water."

Furthermore, the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments in association with the Maryland Department of the Environment, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, and District Department of Environment has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Alert Sunday for the D.C. metro area.

Agencies issue a Code Orange Air Quality Alert when air pollution concentrations become unhealthy for sensitive groups, including children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases and the elderly.

NWS forecasts the possibility of isolated showers and thunderstorms before midnight Sunday.
