NWS Issues Wind Advisory, Freeze Warning

The National Weather Service has extended the Wind Advisory until 11 a.m. Sunday.

The National Weather Service has issued two alerts to residents; a Wind Advisory is in effect until 11 a.m. Sunday morning and a Freeze Warning is in effect from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Monday.

According to NWS, winds will increase, with gusts up to 45-50 mph through sunrise and continue through the morning,

Residents are advised that heavy winds could bring scattered tree and power line damage this morning. Drivers of high profile vehicles may find driving difficult.

NOVEC reports eight Haymarket customers are without power as of 3:30 a.m.

Temperatures will drop below freezing late Sunday night, killing or damaging unprotected vegetation that is sensitive to freezing temperatures.

Temperatures will rise to 61 degrees Monday with winds 5 to 8 mph; however, NWS expects another cold front Thursday.

"Threats look to be fairly minimal with [Thursday's] front outside of a nuisance rain and breezy winds," one forecaster said.
