Rufus Manning, the owner/operator of Bristow’s Orange Leaf frozen yogurt, announced the grand prize winner Sunday of the store's Golden Ticket contest.
Ten Orange Leaf customers, ages 18 and younger, found orange tickets under their waffle cones, brownie or cookie bottoms in the display throughout the month of April. The winners were invited back to the store for a celebration.
“We a VIP grand prize winner party where we pizza from Vocelli and froyo as well,” Manning said. “We also the new ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’ movie.”
The winners’ tickets were put into a drawing and one ticket was selected for the grand prize. Nine year-old Lexi Francis won the grand prize of free frozen yogurt once a week for a year. The other winners will receive free frozen yogurt once a week for the rest of the month.
“I was really happy when I found my orange ticket and I am really excited that I won,” Francis said.
While Francis will have the opportunity to sample all the flavors that Orange Leaf offers throughout the year, she plans to enjoy her favorite froyo flavor, "Root Beer Float."
In organizing the event, Manning tried to recreate the child fantasy of a real life "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" experience.
“Growing up I always thought it was cool watching ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’ and thought of how cool it would be to win a golden ticket, so I decided to hide 10 orange tickets,” Manning said.
Many children within the area jumped at the opportunity to eat more froyo in hopes of winning, you guessed it, even more froyo.
“The event was well received by the community. All of the kids were asking their parents to reward them for good grades and behavior,” Manning said.
The event proved successful and customers will more than likely be able to look forward to another event next year.
Manning said, “I’m happy with how it rolled out and maybe we’ll go bigger and better next year.”
